Master's Degree, Doctoral and Post-Doctoral Program in Oral Biology

Title: Master’s Degree / Doctoral / Post-Doctoral Courses

Lenght of study: Master’s Degree 2 years; Doctoral: 4 years; Post-Doctoral: upon request.

Presentation

The Master’s Degree and Doctoral program in Oral Biology with Oral Biology, Bucomaxilofacial Traumatology Surgery (CTBMF) and Implantology concentration areas is intended to form professionals for teaching and research, providing technical capacitation, skill and competence development required for performing the students’ professional activities, awakening in the individual the critical and updated scientific spirit into the corresponding areas composing it.

Objectives

  • Awake in the student, the critical and updated scientific spirit into the corresponding concentration areas.
  • Develop professional competences and skills for the teaching and research activities.

Target audience

Professionals from the health knowledge area interested in the Oral Biology concentration area; and dentists who may develop projects inserted in the research lines of the Bucomaxilofacial Surgery and Traumatology and Implantology areas.

Graduated student's profile

Qualified teacher/researcher, able to join public or private College Level Institutions, and to develop in them, according to the existing conditions, research, teaching, extension, and Post-Graduation activities.

Requirement

Graduated in the health, biological and related science area for master’s degree in these areas for the doctoral course.

Concentration Area:

Oral Biology: Multiprofessional character area intended to professionals of health knowledge area, which is intended to deepen the knowledge in the teaching and research fields, as well as new technologies applicable in the health area.

Concentration Area:

Bucomaxilofacial Surgery and Traumatology: Area intended to dentists, which seeks to improve techniques and methods in the CTBMF area by means of teaching and research practices, in order to form competent professionals in the area for working in the teaching, research and extension.

Concentration Area:

Implantology: Area intended to dentists, which offers overall knowledge in the Implantology area, from the rigorous surgical-prosthetic planning, patient preparation by means of reconstructive surgeries, development of implant installation protocol and alternative surgical techniques, up to the patient’s mouth rehabilitation with the several types of prosthesis over implants.

Research Lines

  • Research Line 1:   Biological aspects of the health-disease binomial in dentistry or in other knowledge areas

Such research line is intended to achieve a major challenge to several universities in the country regarding the multi- and interdisciplinary integration of professionals with academic profile.   Additionally to such integration, post-graduating students to be formed and their corresponding projects may focus on both pathologic and normal processes in the dentistry area, as well as in different areas, providing a better understanding of the action mechanisms associated to morphofunctional biological factors, comprising inflammatory, infectious, degenerative processes, as well as other as base for a homeostasis balance.

  • Research Line 2:   Epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment of orofacial changes

Epidemiology study of the different facial affections, including pathologies, congenital and acquired malformations, as well as aging process and need for orofacial rehabilitation.   Within this specter, laboratory and clinical studies of the different materials and techniques applied for treating such several changes are also gathered together, collaborating with the establishment of therapeutic protocols and their better understanding applied either individually or within a multidisciplinary approach.

Infrastructure

Laboratories:

The Sacred Heart University has several laboratories, which undergo constant modernization, with a full utilization regime and service coverage intended to the graduation and post-graduation teaching, as well as providing services to the community.   Such laboratories feature sufficient physical spaces for developing and perfecting the several research areas developed in the Program and are identified as:

  • Chemistry and Biochemistry Laboratory
  • Phamacotechnics and Pharmacognosy Laboratory
  • Pharmacodynamics Laboratory
  • Molecular Biology Laboratory
