Scientific and Teaching Initiation

The research activity associated with the individual’s social and intellectual development has been developed and stimulated at USC since the beginning of the institution and at several knowledge areas (applied health, exact, human and social ones).

At Graduation, the University stimulates research by means of End-of-Course Papers and Undergraduate research Programs, supervised by a qualified orientator.    Such programs feature the following objectives:

  • Awake the scientific vocation and incentivize new potential talents among graduation students
  • Provide the institution with a research initiation policy formulation instrument for graduation students
  • Stimulate a greater articulation between graduation and post-graduation
  • Contribute for forming human resources for the research
  • Stimulate Institution researchers to involve graduation students at scientific, technological, and artistic-cultural activities
  • Provide the researching students, guided by a qualified teacher, with the learning of research techniques and methods, as well as the stimulation for developing the scientific thought and creativity, resulting from the creations created by the direct confrontation with research problems.

USC Undergraduate Research Programs are present since 1993 and consist of the following categories:

  • Institutional Undergraduate research Scholarship Program (PIBIC/CNPq):   Incentive research in the widest fields, preparing future researchers who may think scientifically and with creativity for proposing explanations and solutions at the conditions created by the direct confrontation with the research problems.
  • Institutional Technological Development and Innovation Initiation Scholarship Program (PIBITI/CNPq):   Incentive research in the widest fields of technological development and innovation, preparing future researchers who may think scientifically and with creativity in order to propose new technologies and patents intended to solve work field situations.
  • Institutional Undergraduate research Scholarship Program for High Schools (PIBIC-EM/CNPq):  Awake the scientific vocation and incentive potential talents among Public Network High School students by participating in scientific research or technological activities,  oriented by a teacher/qualified researcher at College-level institutions or research institutes/centers.   This program also aims stimulating the development of a scientific, technological and artistic-cultural thinking in the student, improving the critical spirit and learning scientific techniques and methods.
  • Undergraduate research of São Paulo State’s Research Support Foundation (FAPESP):   Scientific or technological research development.
  • Undergraduate research Volunteer Program (PIVIC and PIVITI/USC):   Contribute for forming human resources for research and technological development activities with high innovation potential, transferring such new technologies to society.
  • USC Research Support Fund (FAP/USC):   Awake scientific vocation and incentive new potential talents among graduation students, provide the institution with a research initiation policy-formulating instrument for graduation students, and stimulate a greater articulation between graduation and post-graduation.

USC also has a Teaching Initiation Program:

  • Institutional Teaching Initiation Scholarship Program (PIBID):   Promote students’ insertion within public school context since the beginning of their academic formation for developing didactic-pedagogic activities under the guidance of an associate's degree teacher and a school teacher.
