Graduate Degree in Mental Health and Psychosocial Care

Title: Specialist

Lenght of study: 18 months

Category: Classroom course

Requirement: Professionals with an undergraduate degree in the Health area who work or intend to work in the mental health field. The graduates are expected to be able to implement effective actions in mental health having the perspective of the mental health care network and the Brazilian psychiatric reform prerogatives as a reference.

About the course

The course prepares the professional to conduct actions in mental health and psychosocial care, contributing to the qualification in healthcare, not excluding the patient with psychic suffering from the family and social life, with actions directed to the family members and according to an Integral Healthcare proposal.

This course was created due to the identification of a lack of professionals with a particular formation in mental health in the city of Bauru and region and, more specifically, the worry about the perpetuation of asylum practices even in the services that are replacing the model of asylum. In spite of the curricular adaptations of the undergraduate courses in the health area, which introduced contents related to current mental health policies, to the Brazilian psychiatric reform movement and the theoretical basis of psychosocial care models, the practice of psychosocial actions has not been structured yet.
