Ethanol Production From Sugarcane Molasses

About the course

Course proposition is: theoretical class about sugarcane ethanol production, as well as practical class conducted on a pilot plant. It should be pointed out that ethanol is one of the most important biofuels worldwide, and Brazil is the second largest producer. It is produced from sugarcane juice and molasses resulting from sugar production. Therefore, the course seeks to present theoretical and practical knowledge about the production process, enabling the student to acquire knowledge about physical, chemical, and microbiological aspects.



Objectives

General purpose: Providing theoretical and practical knowledge about ethanol productive process from sugar manufacturing residual molasses

Specific objectives:

  • Acquiring theoretical knowledge about its production process
  • Wort preparation and characterization
  • Yeast adaptation and fermentation
  • Fermentation yeast microbiological characterization
  • Wine characterization
  • Distillation
  • Ethanol characterization.
